Ming Yi (明一; pinyin: Míngyī) (b. 1970) is a lay Buddhist from the Mahayana tradition. He is the founder of Guangdong Guangji Charitable Foundation, president of Nanhai Renxiao Psychological Consulting Company, president of the Luoding Buddhist Association, managing director of Guangdong Buddhist Association, president of Foyuan Magazine Company of Luoding, vice-chairman of Maoming Buddhist Association, member of People's Political Consultative Conference of Maoming and Luoding, and member of Chinese Kuomintang Revolutionary Committee.
Ming Yi was born in Nanhai, Guangdong Province, China, under the birth name of Zhang Ming-fang (Zhāng Míngfāng 张明芳). He spent twenty years studying Buddhism and Philosophy under the guidance of Master Benhuan, Master Foyuan and Master Haitao, and formally acknowledged Master Dayuan as his master.
Ming Yi is well known for using modern technology to spread the Buddha's teachings for more than eight years. His over-thousand lectures are recorded on audio, video tapes and CDs for wide distribution in many temples, including many Buddhist temples and centers where people can pick up books to distribute to other places.
In recent years, Ming Yi has emphasized the Buddhism culture, social charity, morality and family harmony, social stability promotion. Countless people listened to his dharma lectures and launched long-term charity for many elderly people and the dropouts in various areas. In 2008, Ming Yi raised support for establishing schools in Sichuan earthquake areas over 100,000 yuan, and raised a funding over 600,000 yuan to set up Luoding Primary School. He has sponsored with medicaments and the printing and the distribution of Buddhist texts over 200,000 yuan each year. Up to the year of 2012, he has raised charity donations over 10 million yuan.
